If you add several items, just click the arrow icon to bring up the list items you have in the bar. To add an app or other items, just drag it over until you see the message Move to Quick Launch.
If this is the first time you’ve tried moving toolbars around it can be a bit tricky, but if you try it a couple of times it’s easy to pick up.
